We need to cleanse our skin every day. Proper skin cleansing is the key to healthy, beautiful and glowing skin. Being exposed to various environmental factors, the skin must be cleaned not only from decorative cosmetics, but also from dust particles that can settle on it during the day.
For a long time, regular soap has been used to cleanse the skin. However, as it is known due to its alkaline nature, soap has the ability to dry out the skin of the face. Therefore, makeup removers came to the rescue. One of them is micellar water. Micellar water has recently become very popular. Let's figure out what it is for, what it is needed and how to use it correctly.
Micellar water comes from France, where it has been known for about a century and has been used for washing as an alternative to hard water. The innovative technology of using the new cleansing agent belongs to the French company Bioderma, whose micellar water has been produced since 1991 and has gained immense popularity all over the world.
Micellar water is essentially a gentle treatment for removing impurities from the surface of the face skin. The name «micellar water» comes from its main constituent - micelles - small balls in water or solvent. In general, micelles consist of two components - hydrophilic (loving water) and lipophilic (loving fat), which absorb various impurities on their surface. The micelles contain surfactants that cleanse the skin from sebum, sweat, makeup, dust particles and other impurities, without requiring rinsing. The composition of micellar water contains soft water with a reduced concentration of magnesium and calcium ions, which also allows you to gently cleanse the skin. In addition, studies have demonstrated the ability of micellar water to moisturize the skin, due to the presence of components such as glycerin in the composition.
Among the disadvantages of using micellar water, it is worth noting that not in all cases micellar water is able to completely and carefully remove makeup, especially for waterproof makeup products. Also, if you have oily skin, micellar water may not be the best choice for cleansing the skin, since micelles are oily in nature. In this case, micellar water can be used as a means of cleansing and toning the skin, however, the skin may require additional cleansing. Users with sensitive skin should also be a little more careful, as the presence of surfactants in micellar water can lead to skin irritation. In this case, after using micellar water, you must additionally wash the face skin with running water. However, today there are hypoallergenic micellar water products designed specifically for sensitive skin. See our selection.
Interestingly, despite the name water, micellar water does not always come in the form of water. There are micellar wipes, micellar foam for washing and even micellar shampoo and hair conditioner.
How to use it? Apply micellar water to a cotton pad, wipe your face twice a day: in the morning and in the evening. Does not require rinsing with water.
We have compiled a selection of topical micellar water products that will gently and effectively cleanse your face from makeup, sebum, sweat, dust particles and other impurities, are suitable for daily use, and will also help keep the skin hydrated, providing it with a healthy and radiant look.
